General Information

The Power Plate device was first developed by the Russian Space Program to be used in orbit by astronauts to maintain and stimulate bone density in a zero gravity environment. Bone and other tissue need a combination of gravity and exercise to maintain normal calcium metabolism and bone strength/density. Advocates of the Power Plate claim that bone density and soft tissue healing are accelerated by the Power Plate device. The Power Plate works by vibrating a flat metal plate at a certain htz and frequency rate and then placing a body area on the plate for a period of time. You can also stand on the device.

Vibration is a known stimulus to help bone and soft tissue form and heal faster. However, it is also recognized that vibration can accelerate the degeneration of the intervertebral disc. People with painful degenerative spine conditions should avoid the use of the Power Plate in the standing or sitting position. Extremity work is fine. Power Plate instructors are specially trained and certified in the use of this unique piece of equipment.
