In 2006 at age 68, I was feeling very good about myself; I was in good health and had an active lifestyle. Then, out of nowhere, I started having severe back and leg pain. I was advised by my primary care physician to begin physical therapy. I diligently and optimistically had treatment four times a week. After six months, I finally had to face the reality that I wasn’t getting any better.
The next step was an MRI which Dr. Biscup reviewed and advised me that I had spinal stenosis at three levels. Of his three options, I chose to have micro decompression. Two weeks later I had surgery. The very next morning, my husband picked me up from the hospital. That evening Don and I took a short walk on the beach promenade. Pain free. Joyful.
Within three months, I was back to my regular active schedule–walking four miles a day, playing tennis, weight training, swimming and most amazingly, zip lining in Costa Rica.
Pain is stressful and debilitating. Living without it is a gift.
Thank you, Dr. Biscup for giving me my life back.
