Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
Spine surgery should only be considered after other options have been exhausted. When it is determined that surgery is your best chance for back pain relief, a minimally invasive procedure is almost always the preferred option. A laminotomy is the least invasive of three lamina surgeries. At Biscup Spine, renowned spine surgeon Dr. Robert S. Biscup can help you determine if this is the right procedure for you.
Advantages of Laminotomy
This is the preferred lamina surgical method as it can be done with only a few incisions on one or both sides of the spine. The procedure removes abnormal tissue and relieves pressure on spinal nerves. Its sister surgeries, laminectomy and laminaplasty, are more complex and require more incisions. If you have been diagnosed with a lamina-related condition, Dr. Biscup will determine whether a laminotomy would be a viable surgical option.
The purpose of a laminotomy is to remove:
- Diseased tissue
- Bone spurs
- Herniated disc(s)
